Gas Prices

July 9, 2008

I know a lot of people around the country are wondering how high the gas prices are going to go. I’ve heard as high as 5 dollars here in New Hampshire. Some states are close to that now and the summer is only half over, if that. I for one am feeling the pinch, cutting back on some of the things I normally do. It’s not only the price of the gas because it effects everything. Food, electronics, home heating oil, anything really that depends on transportation to get it from one part of the country to the other. The question I have is why is it so high? Is it really as the news people and the economists say? Or is it the Oil company using excuses to jack up the prices and make more money. And of course the government has their hands in it as well with the gas tax. It’s been heading this way for years, we all new it was coming, didn’t we?  Why weren’t we preparing?  Saving up and buying a more economical car, using alternative fuels or car pooling. Pushing our leaders to find other sources of energy than oil and coal. It’s just starting now by moving ever so slowly to wind and solar power. But even now our government is wanting to drill for more oil. They don’t get that it’s going to run out sooner or later, and from the way it looks it maybe sooner. I know a lot of people who are now in dire straights because of the economy. People are loosing their homes because that can’t pay their mortgage. The stock market isn’t looking so good either, we are defiantly in a recession if you ask me. We are all looking at each other wondering what to do and who to blame. I guess we can blame the government and their failed energy policy and George W. Bushes economic short comings.  He has brought us from a financial surplus to a deficient that is off the charts. And for those who try to blame this on the Clinton administration, that’s a load of crock. This fall directly in George W. Bushes lap, he is squarely to blame for out economical worries. Let’s hope we can figure out our energy and economic problems soon. I want to get back to the country people once envied not laughed at, another thing we can thank our president for.

Social Networks

July 5, 2008

How many people use social networks like Twitter, Pownce, and Plurk. Or Myspace, Friendster , or FaceBook?  I’ve checked them all out and come to find that they really are social networks. People talk about everyday stuff, form clicks and spread gossip or other information. I try to talk to most people on these sites, have gotten some good responses. Some not so good and some who don’t reply at all.  I enjoy meeting new people and hoped that most of the ones I meet would be sociable. Some were, most were not or just didn’t respond. I’ve been using chat rooms and social networks since I could connect to BBS’s back in the early 90’s.  And I’ve found that people can be just as rude online as in person. Sometimes more so since they can get away with is anonymously. I’m not one who likes to lecture on good manners but some people should take a make up course in it. I know everyone has the freedom to say what they want. But why be so mean to people who are trying to reach out and meet new people. They may not be fluent in what ever your talking about but that’s no reason to start picking fun at them.

And then there is the issue of spamming. I don’t know about anyone else but I didn’t join a social network to get spammed into buying Viagra or any other product for that matter.  Adds have there place and it’s not in the middle of my social network. If you want to place ads that’s fine just try and make the unobtrusive as possible. Is that to much to ask, just put them some where like on the log-in screen or some where like that. I hate popup’s  while I’m trying to browse the web or holding down a conversation. I maybe asking for to much and might even get some nasty remarks about this but what the hell. I have the right to free speech myself, so why not.
