How many people use social networks like Twitter, Pownce, and Plurk. Or Myspace, Friendster , or FaceBook? I’ve checked them all out and come to find that they really are social networks. People talk about everyday stuff, form clicks and spread gossip or other information. I try to talk to most people on these sites, have gotten some good responses. Some not so good and some who don’t reply at all. I enjoy meeting new people and hoped that most of the ones I meet would be sociable. Some were, most were not or just didn’t respond. I’ve been using chat rooms and social networks since I could connect to BBS’s back in the early 90’s. And I’ve found that people can be just as rude online as in person. Sometimes more so since they can get away with is anonymously. I’m not one who likes to lecture on good manners but some people should take a make up course in it. I know everyone has the freedom to say what they want. But why be so mean to people who are trying to reach out and meet new people. They may not be fluent in what ever your talking about but that’s no reason to start picking fun at them.
And then there is the issue of spamming. I don’t know about anyone else but I didn’t join a social network to get spammed into buying Viagra or any other product for that matter. Adds have there place and it’s not in the middle of my social network. If you want to place ads that’s fine just try and make the unobtrusive as possible. Is that to much to ask, just put them some where like on the log-in screen or some where like that. I hate popup’s while I’m trying to browse the web or holding down a conversation. I maybe asking for to much and might even get some nasty remarks about this but what the hell. I have the right to free speech myself, so why not.

There are now thousands of social networks that cater to a whole variety of subjects. These smaller, focused sites allow users to connect with like-minded people and give advertisers targeted demographics. Niche social networks are also good for marketers who have a product or service they want to promote that relates to a particular interest. A good place to find such sites is this search engine for social networks.
