Election Time

October 29, 2008

Well it’s almost that time, time to choose the next President of the United States. I don’t know about most of you all, but around where I live it all any one can talk about. I hear it from both sides Obama Supporters and McCain Supporters. And to tell you the truth but my brains about to blow a gasket.  Both sides stretch the truth, take things out of context and just make things up. One side saying the others this or that and the other side responds in kind. They spend more time saying what is wrong with the other guy than how they are going to fix things when they get in office. And when they do talk about it, it really doesn’t instill a lot of confidence in either candidate. I know both of them are equal when it comes to how well they’ll run the country if they are elected. It’s just the way in which they do it that is the difference. But like an Alzheimer’s patient will go to the polls and elect one of them thinking they’ll change things for the better. Slowly the people in our government get more and more corrupt and out of touch with the people of this country. Being a Democracy is great and having all the rights we have but when you factor money into the whole thing then that’s where things go wrong. How good is a democracy that is bought and sold daily?  Now some may say that it’s a bit extreme to say this but ask yourself “is it so hard to believe”. We have come so far from what are forefathers wanted this country to be that I don’t think they would recognize it today.   They created this country for the people by the people, and I don’t think they meant just the rich ones. How will things change in the next few years is a guess at best. All I know is that if we don’t start to change not only how our government does things but how we do things ourselves  we are screwed big time….With the economy in the toilet and our planet not to far behind we are looking at some dark times ahead… I hope I’m just sounding like an alarmist here, But I’m not sure I am any more…..We need to change and for the better. I don’t think we as a nation can stand idly by and let our government and big business cause even more problems that soon can’t be fixed. And the problems are coming on many fronts…Economic, Environmental, Worldly Political Issues, The war on Terror, Hunger and Famine. So who are you going to trust to fix these issues…Someone more interested in lining their pockets or big businesses? We need to get more involved in not only electing the right kind of people to office but holding them accountable for their actions. It’s to important now to just let it slide any more…..

Gas Prices

July 9, 2008

I know a lot of people around the country are wondering how high the gas prices are going to go. I’ve heard as high as 5 dollars here in New Hampshire. Some states are close to that now and the summer is only half over, if that. I for one am feeling the pinch, cutting back on some of the things I normally do. It’s not only the price of the gas because it effects everything. Food, electronics, home heating oil, anything really that depends on transportation to get it from one part of the country to the other. The question I have is why is it so high? Is it really as the news people and the economists say? Or is it the Oil company using excuses to jack up the prices and make more money. And of course the government has their hands in it as well with the gas tax. It’s been heading this way for years, we all new it was coming, didn’t we?  Why weren’t we preparing?  Saving up and buying a more economical car, using alternative fuels or car pooling. Pushing our leaders to find other sources of energy than oil and coal. It’s just starting now by moving ever so slowly to wind and solar power. But even now our government is wanting to drill for more oil. They don’t get that it’s going to run out sooner or later, and from the way it looks it maybe sooner. I know a lot of people who are now in dire straights because of the economy. People are loosing their homes because that can’t pay their mortgage. The stock market isn’t looking so good either, we are defiantly in a recession if you ask me. We are all looking at each other wondering what to do and who to blame. I guess we can blame the government and their failed energy policy and George W. Bushes economic short comings.  He has brought us from a financial surplus to a deficient that is off the charts. And for those who try to blame this on the Clinton administration, that’s a load of crock. This fall directly in George W. Bushes lap, he is squarely to blame for out economical worries. Let’s hope we can figure out our energy and economic problems soon. I want to get back to the country people once envied not laughed at, another thing we can thank our president for.

Social Networks

July 5, 2008

How many people use social networks like Twitter, Pownce, and Plurk. Or Myspace, Friendster , or FaceBook?  I’ve checked them all out and come to find that they really are social networks. People talk about everyday stuff, form clicks and spread gossip or other information. I try to talk to most people on these sites, have gotten some good responses. Some not so good and some who don’t reply at all.  I enjoy meeting new people and hoped that most of the ones I meet would be sociable. Some were, most were not or just didn’t respond. I’ve been using chat rooms and social networks since I could connect to BBS’s back in the early 90’s.  And I’ve found that people can be just as rude online as in person. Sometimes more so since they can get away with is anonymously. I’m not one who likes to lecture on good manners but some people should take a make up course in it. I know everyone has the freedom to say what they want. But why be so mean to people who are trying to reach out and meet new people. They may not be fluent in what ever your talking about but that’s no reason to start picking fun at them.

And then there is the issue of spamming. I don’t know about anyone else but I didn’t join a social network to get spammed into buying Viagra or any other product for that matter.  Adds have there place and it’s not in the middle of my social network. If you want to place ads that’s fine just try and make the unobtrusive as possible. Is that to much to ask, just put them some where like on the log-in screen or some where like that. I hate popup’s  while I’m trying to browse the web or holding down a conversation. I maybe asking for to much and might even get some nasty remarks about this but what the hell. I have the right to free speech myself, so why not.

Presidential Elections

June 27, 2008

Been hearing some nasty things about Obama. Well it does give one pause to think about who we are willing to elect and what we are will to forgive in a president. Most all if not all candidates lie to get into office, but what are most people willing to over look and vote for a person anyway?  I don’t know what Obama will do once elected, and only a slightly better idea of what McCain will do. I definitely don’t like some of the positions McCain has on Net Neutrality and he  is of the same party as Bush.  And we all know how well he is doing.  Obama has been called by someone I know as the Anti-Christ. Is that a bit much? Maybe, but does it make one want to take a closer look at him before election time. It’s a good idea to do your homework on something like this. I would also say the same thing for McCain, Both men should be scrutinized carefully. And the best person for the job should be elected. But how does one make an educated decision when there is a lot of trash talking and a shortage of truth or facts. I am frustrated in always trying to select the lesser of two evils when it comes to the presidential elections. Running for president is more about making money then serving your country now a days. Some have run not only for the money but also to push some kind of agenda. I was sure who I was going to vote for earlier in the year. Now I’m not sure, both candidates seem to be poor choices. I could vote for the party I’m currently registered in as a default vote, or switch maybe to the Independent vote. More homework will have to be done before I make up my mind. The person we elect will be running the country for at least the next 4 years. It’s going to be a tough time in our history with the war on terror, the war in Iraq, the economy, gas prices and so much more. Let’s hope we get it right this time, for all our sakes.
